WOODINVILLE, Wash. --- Jeff Calhoon turned back to his home state for his first recruiting commitment as Biola Baseball's Head Coach, signing right-handed pitcher Brandon McClean from Woodinville, Washington this week.Â
"Brandon is a great example of the type of student-athlete we are looking for at Biola," said Coach Calhoon. "He has had a lot of success at the high-school level in Washington and projects well with a high ceiling in our program."
McClean helped his Cedar Park Christian team to an 80-20 record during his high school career while the Eagles reached two state semifinals. He was named an all-conference pitcher and team MVP each of the last two years and struckout 70 batters in 49 innings as a senior. He also recorded a 6-1 record and a 0.43 ERA in 2019.Â
And that's just the type of the iceberg for McClean's success over the past few years. In addition to graduating from the honors program at CPC, McClean was chosen to represent the Eagles at the All-State All-Star Series and earned Defensive MVP honors after throwing four shutout innings with four strikeouts two months ago.Â
He also won multiple travel ball tournaments with his Washington FCA Baseball club team that posted an .802 win percentage (42-10-1).
McClean will join his sister Madison at Biola and plans to major in business in hopes of becoming an entrepreneur. He had hoped to enroll at a Christian university for baseball throughout his recruiting process and it was the connection he developed with Coach Calhoon that made Biola the place to be:
"I chose Biola because I want to be able to continue my education in a Christ-centered community," said McClean. "I am beyond blessed to get the opportunity to play at the collegiate level and I am super excited to be able to play under Coach Calhoon's leadership."
McClean will meet his new teammates at the end of August and beginning preparing for Biola Baseball's first season of NCAA postseason eligibility in 2020. More information about other incoming student-athletes can be found on the
Committed Athletes page.
