LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The D2 Athletic Directors Association announced its Academic Achievement recipients on this week, recognizing over 60 Biola Eagles for the third-straight year for their success in the classroom and in their sport.
Biola student-athletes accounted for 65 of the 11,660 student-athletes recognized across the country. That number ranked the Eagles second among PacWest schools with Point Loma having 84 award recipients and maintains Biola's impressive streak of great numbers in this program; BU had 61 recipients in 2016-17 and 69 in 2017-18.
Overall, the D2 ADA set new records for most participation with 185 schools represented and highest number of honorees with the 11,660 student-athletes meeting the criteria.
The Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level. In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the athletics director of the Division II institution MUST BE a CURRENT dues-paying member of the D2 ADA.
- Also, the student-athlete must:
- have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
- have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work
- have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year
Six of the 15 programs that had representatives of Biola's list increased their number of honorees compared to 2017-18. Baseball, Men's Cross Country/Track & Field and Women's Tennis each raised their representation by four student-athletes while Women's Soccer continued to lead the way with a five student-athletes increase. Head Coach Erin Brunelle's group also had the most Academic Achievement honorees this year (17) after also having the most last year.
