LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola student-athletes picked up 195 Academic All-PacWest honors for their work in the classroom during the 2018-19 school year, improving on the Eagles' total from the previous year by 19. 

The Eagles had the most Academic All-PacWest honors for the second year in a row. Last year, Biola edged Azusa Pacific by three Academic All-PacWest honors to top the conference's 14 institutions. But the gap widened significantly this year, with the Eagles having 41 most Academic All-PacWest student-athletes than Point Loma, who had the second-most Academic All-PacWest recipients (154).

Student-athletes who achieve at least a cumulative 3.0 grade-point average, completed at least two semesters at their institution and participated in regular season competition in a PacWest sponsored sport receive Academic All-PacWest recognition.

Biola Baseball had the greatest increase of Academic All-PacWest recipients compared to last year, going from 14 student-athletes on the list to 23. Women's Track and Field (29) and Women's Soccer (26) also increased their Academic All-PacWest numbers this year and led Biola's list of honorees for the second year in a row. 

Biola Women's Tennis also went back-to-back with 100 percent representation (nine total) again this year after all seven women earn Academic All-PacWest honors a year ago. 

The PacWest recognized over 1,500 student-athletes with Academic All-PacWest honors this year, including 30 who maintained perfect 4.0 GPA's. Seven of the 4.0 GPA's belonged to Biola student-athletes: Tori Apodaca (SB), Christina DenBoer (VB), Tanner Dutchover (XC/T&F), Taylor Lawsen (XC/T&F), Katelyn Penner (WSOC), Daniel Perez (XC/T&F) and Heidi Sowers (T&F).
