BERMUDA DUNES, Calif. --- After her official commitment to Biola Women's Soccer a few months ago, Mason Stansberry is now just over three weeks away from joining the Eagles' training camp in preparation for her first season of collegiate soccer.Â
Stansberry comes to Biola after a decorated stint as a two-sport athlete at Shadow Hills High School, where her blazing speed branded her name into several places of the Knights' soccer and track & field record books. In her senior year alone, Stansberry earned Second Team All-League honors in soccer and her team's player of the year award before improving upon two of her own records in the 100 meters and 200 meters sprints the following spring to give her six total sprint records for the Knights.Â
Stansberry qualified for three CIF meets as a sprinter and was tabbed as the best female sprinter in Shadow Hills history on Twitter by her coach after her performance at the league meet. An excellent student who posted a 4.0 or above all four years of high school, Stansberry also earned Senior Scholar Athlete recognition and was named Athlete of the Year at SHHS.
On the pitch, Stansberry's speed and finishing ability as a forward made her a constant scoring threat and often a dominant force. She set a program record with 39 goals as a freshman starting on varsity in 2016 to grab All-CIF mention and followed that up with an All-League First Team performance as a sophomore when the Knights advanced to the CIF semi-finals.
In addition her to sheer athleticism and academic success, Stansberry's kind demeanor and servant's heart also made her an exciting prospect for Head Coach Erin Brunelle's program.Â
Stansberry wants to use the business administration degree she'll pursue at Biola to start a healthy and fitness business that will promote healthy living and positive self-image. And her passion for youth ministry, particularly to young girls, has led her to volunteer at multiple summer Vacation Bible Schools through her church.Â
"After interacting with Mason during her visit, I knew we would be absolutely blessed to have someone of her character and strong relationship with the Lord in our program," said Coach Brunelle. "She is wise beyond her years and is boldly living for the Kingdom in big and small ways. She possesses rare qualities that will enable her to be a wonderful teammate at the collegiate level.
"Mason also brings speed and strength to the forward line. We are looking forward to developing her movement off the ball and ability to combine with the players around her, which will allow her to help create dangerous scoring opportunities for herself and her teammates."
Stansberry will join her new teammates for training camp in mid-August as the Eagles prepare for their first season of NCAA postseason eligibility in 2019. More information about other incoming student-athletes can be found on the
Committed Athletes page.
