SECAUCUS, NJ --- Senior starting pitcher Troy Stainbrook was been selected by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday in the 30th round of the MLB Draft, becoming the first Eagle since 2011 to be drafted directly off of Biola's roster.

The lefty's selection also marks the second time the Nationals have selected an player associated with Biola Baseball, as Tyler Baca was picked by the Nats after his senior year at Linfield Christian High School last summer.

Troy Stainbrook pitched two seasons for the Eagles after transferring to Biola from College of the Sequoias and quickly brought an imposing presence to the mound at Eagles Diamond. Stainbrook helped the Eagles reach the semifinals of the NCCAA World Series in 2018, allowing just one earned run in a 5-4 win over Concordia Ann Arbor and going 5-3 on the year, before really finding his stuff in 2019.

Stainbrook struck out at least eight batters in each of his final eight starts in his senior season while lowering his ERA by almost a full run during that four-week span. That run helped Stainbrook eclipse his 2018 strikeout total with 53 K's last year, despite throwing 24 fewer innings, and carried him to an ERA of 2.18.

Stainbrook is the 21st Biola alum to be drafted by a Major League Baseball team and was thet hird player in the PacWest Conference to be taken in this year's draft after Point Loma's Micah Pries was taken in the 13th round and Azusa Pacific's James Acuna's 29th round selection earlier on Wednesday. The conference was also represented by Justin Gomez and Cole Kleszcz from Azusa Pacific.
