YORBA LINDA, Calif. --- It's not typical to think of an incoming freshman as a seasoned baseball player. But Gabe Huante has experienced more than enough of the baseball grind to earn that distinction.
The Yorba Linda, California-native has experienced a lot between his five years as a youth coach at Southern California FCA Baseball Camps and his time in the Orange Lutheran High School baseball program. Since officially signing with Biola in early February, Huante focused back in on his senior season with the Lancers, who just won their third-straight National High School Invitational title in Cary, North Carolina last week and are a consensus top-five team nationally with their 17-3 record.
Coincidentally, Orange Lutheran played the NHSI at the same complex that the NCAA DII Baseball Championships are held. So the Eagles certainly hope Huante's contribution to their roster will help send them to the same place in high school team has gone for so many years.
When Huante enrolls in classes at Biola in the fall, he'll be deciding between the business or christian ministries majors as he looks into a career in youth ministry. Until then, Biola Baseball fans can get a sneak peak at the middle infielder this summer because Huante will be playing his summer ball at Eagles Diamond with the So. Cal. Shepherds, a team that may be familiar to readers as the same team that
Brayden Englert and Zack Labounty played on before joining the Eagles for the 2019 season.
Huante still has another month or so left of his high school baseball career. But there's no question he's excited about the fit he'll have at Biola:
"I choose Biola for the baseball, obviously, but also the community and fellowship with the students and teachers," said Hunate. "I have always loved the campus and the area and just can't wait to be apart of the Biola family."
Huante will join the Biola Eagles for their first season of NCAA postseason eligibility in 2020. More information about other incoming student-athletes can be found on the Committed Athletes page.
