Home No More

Biola finished off its home schedule with a tough 11-2 loss at the hands of CUI.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Softball had a bit of a letdown in its final home regular season contest in 2019. After a supremely competitive first game against No. 12 Concordia Irvine, the Eagles suffered a run-rule 11-2 loss to the back-to-back PacWest Champions.

Concordia scored three in the first, one in the second and used a grand slam to power a five-run third inning to build its big lead. Biola put up two of its own in the bottom of the second inning, and it seemed like the game was back to being competitive at 4-2. However, the grand salami in the next half inning sucked all the wind out of the sails of BU.

CUI's two wins today allowed them to sweep the season series against the Eagles. All three previous games were narrow wins in competitive and compelling games, but there was not much going in Biola's favor in the final contest.

After the third inning the game became more about savoring and celebrating the five seniors playing in their final game at Freedom Field. That included seeing the final at-bats for Andi Hormel, Areana Ramos, Hailey Boyett and Missy Poti and catching Kaile Chavez pitching and playing right field at home for the last time.

In her second-to-last at-bat at Freedom Field Hormel hit one of her trademark outfield gap doubles to drive in one of Biola's two runs in the nightcap.

The loss is the Eagles' third in their last four times out. They will look to shake off the cold streak next week as they end the regular season with a road doubleheader at Azusa Pacific on Thursday.

Biola sits at 23-15 overall and 18-10 in PacWest Conference play.
