Sixth Inning Shocker

Biola has a slight setback in its rocking road trip with game one loss.

BELMONT, Calif. --- The teams play seven innings each game, but sometimes it can be as simple as one inning making all the difference. That was the story in Friday's game one as Notre Dame de Namur scored six sixth-inning runs to shock Biola and win the game 6-3.

The Eagles were cruising along with a 3-0 lead and Kaile Chavez mowing down the NDNU hitters, but some kind of switch was flipped as the Argos managed to have their first six batters of the inning reach base in the bottom of the sixth.

A trio of doubles and a homerun really helped expedite the NDNU offense and allowed them to produce in a way that was not seen once on Thursday or through the first five innings Friday.

Biola scored two in the second and one of its own in the sixth and even managed to have three different base runners reach in the top of the seventh but could not scratch out enough to overcome the one inning from NDNU.

Credit to the Argos who played much better defense in this game and really helped their cause with a swift double play turned in Biola's half of the seventh inning to cut the rally short.

Both teams ended with eight hits. Biola ended with a pair of errors and now the series hangs in the balance headed into the final game of the road trip, which is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start time.

Missy Poti and Madison Blossey both had a pair of hits in the loss.

Biola drops to 22-13 (17-8 PacWest) as it sees a six-game winning streak snapped. It's a big win for the Argos, who pick up just their third victory of conference play.
