Denney Helps Eagles Rise

Colin Denney hopes to boost the Biola Eagles in the same way he’s helping Sante Fe Christian during his senior campaign.

April 18, 2019

SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- With his production behind the plate, catcher Colin Denney has helped the Santa Fe Christian Eagles sustain their winning tradition in 2019 after the Eagles went 20-9 a year ago and qualified for the CIF San Diego Section playoffs.

Denney is in his first year with Sante Fe Christian after transferring in and has immediately made an impact with 16 hits and 11 RBI's in 19 games. He'll hope to make another positive contribution next season at Biola when he joins another group of Eagles during their first push toward NCAA postseason play.

The San Marcos, California-native has helped Sante Fe Christian to a 15-6 record and impressive 5-1 mark in Coastal League play so far this season, mashing four extra-base hits while stealing seven bases. The Eagles have scored 110 runs in those 21 games while allowing just 64 and have the best offense in the Coastal League this season, scoring 15 more runs during league play than any of their peer programs.

Biola has a recent history of getting production from its young catches as Andrew Buglino and Caleb Watson have combined for 35 starts this season and 29 hits. And with Denney's addition, all four catchers currently expected on the 2020 roster will be freshmen or sophomores.

Denney plans to major in business administration at with an emphasis in financial management at Biola and hopes to prepare for a career as a financial advisor. His academic achievements in high school include membership into the National Honors Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. And his commitment to his Christian faith played a big factor in his commitment to Biola:

"I am excited to come to Biola so that I can continue to integrate my faith into every part of my life, whether it is on or off the field," said Denney.

Denney will join the Biola Eagles for their first season of NCAA postseason eligibility in 2020. More information about other incoming student-athletes can be found on the Committed Athletes page.
