LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Both Biola tennis teams are coming off impressive victories marked by full team efforts last week and hope to carry that momentum into matches against PacWest opponents this week. Women's Tennis earned a 4-0 sweep of Hope International with strong performances from
Lily Waterhouse, who earned a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set win in singles, and the doubles pairs of
Ines Diaz and
Allison Torres and
Sarah Morgan and
Anna Hartmann. The ladies dropped a tough match against San Diego Christian on Saturday. But they did see encouraging play from
Esther Lee in her return from injury and hope their few days off to begin the week will only help them recover and sharpen up for Wednesday's match against Concordia.
In contrast, the men's team bounced back from a loss to Hope International in their season opener with a monumental 4-0 sweep of San Diego Christian behind two wins from Logan Blair, including a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles with Quentin Lau. The victory marks the first time Biola defeated San Diego Christian on the court in the five years of meeting between the two schools. The Eagles were credited with a win via forfeit by the Hawks in 2016. Blair is also in rare form coming into two big matches for his team this week. The sophomore has won back-to-back straight-set victories as Biola's No. 2 singles player to start the season in addition to his excellent combination with Lau on Saturday.

MTEN: The Eagles welcome Azusa Pacific to the Biola Tennis Center on Monday for the first of two
Cornerstone Cup matchups this season. Five Cornerstone Cup points will be on the line with five more up for grabs when Biola travels to Azusa on March 22. The Cougars currently led the Cornerstone Cup standings 50-20, but Biola could make up 15 points this week with a win from Men's Tennis and with 10 points at stake at the PCSC Swimming Championships this weekend.

WTEN: Concordia will be playing its first match of the season on Wednesday when it travels to the Biola Tennis Center. CUI went 12-12 a year ago but did earn two wins at the PacWest Tennis Championships and finished sixth place in the conference. Concordia went 2-0 against Biola a year ago, but the tandem of
Tinisee Kandakai and
Allison Torres provided some excitement in the second meeting when they
won their doubles match in a tiebreak after falling behind 6-3.
MTEN: Concordia Men's Tennis had one of the more surprising finishes of the 2018 PacWest tournament, finish in third place after entering the Championship with a 8-10 record. CUI came out on top of both meetings with Biola last year but has had to reload its 2019 roster. Regardless, the figures to be another good test for Biola that will help indicate where the Eagles fall in the conference pecking order.
