LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Senior Madyson Brown and sophomore Katelyn Penner were both named All-West Region by the United Soccer Coaches in the association's NCAA DII release on Monday. Brown earned All-Region Second Team at defender after her 2019 season that also resulted in PacWest Defender of the Year honors. And Penner appeared on the All-Region Third Team at midfielder, becoming a consensus All-Region player after she earned the same honor with the Conference Commissioners Association on November 20.

Brown and Penner were two of the eight representative from the PacWest Conference on the United Soccer Coaches' All-Region teams. The teams are nominated and selected solely by the coaches from the region who maintain membership in United Soccer Coaches, which is the largest soccer coaches association in the world and exists to "provide programs and services that enhance, encourage, and contribute to the development and recognition of soccer coaches, their players, and the game."

This is Brown's third award from United Soccer Coaches, coming two years after she was named Scholar All-West Region and NCCAA Player of the Year by the Association in 2017. 

She earns this All-West Region Second Team recognition after leading the Eagles surrender the fewest goals in the PacWest in 2019 (12), while starting all 18 matches and playing all but two minutes of those contests. Her premiere mix of consistency, excellence and determination made her a standout contributor match in and match out and made her the conference's near-unanimous choice for Defender of the Year.

Penner was named All-PacWest first team for the second time in as many years after she became more of a scoring threat for the Eagles while she remained a creative centerpiece of Biola's efforts to possess the ball.
 
Penner was top-five in the conference with three game-winning goals and played every minute in 13 of Biola's 18 matches, including 10 contests against PacWest opponents. She was the first Biola student-athlete from a team sport to earn back-to-back All-PacWest First Team honors, the first to be voted to an All-Region team and now becomes the first Eagle in the NCAA-Era to earn All-Region recognition from two associations in the same year.

United Soccer Coaches will release its Scholar All-Region selections on Monday December 16 before Penner and the returning members of the women's soccer team begin their Spring training when they return to Biola after Christmas break.
