FONTANA, Calif. --- If one thing's for certain, it is that Laila Walker's time at Summit High School has developed a winner's mentality in the point guard. 

A four-year varsity player for the SkyHawks, Walker knows what it takes to play as a favorite game in and game out and how to continually build toward bigger goals because her team has won 61-straight league games and has recorded six-consecutive league titles. Walker has played in 83 of Summit's games over the past three years and has helped the SkyHawks record at least 20 wins in each of those seasons. 

Walker will try to lead her team to another title and a CIF playoff run as a senior. But when her time at Summit High is done, Walker will turn her attention to facilitating the offense for Head Coach Alan Nakamura's Biola Women's Basketball team. 

"We have enjoyed getting to know Laila and her family over the last year and she is a valuable start to our 2020 Signing Class," said Coach Nakamura. "We believe we are a great fit for her, and she is a great fit for us, as a university, a community, and a basketball family. She is a humble, godly, intelligent, and talented student-athlete. And we are confident that she will enhance our Team Culture of "Together," and "Receive and Give." We know she will have an excellent senior year, and we are looking forward to the day she steps on campus as a Biola student-athlete!"

The point guard carries All-League MVP and All-League First Team honors into her commitment to Biola. She was also selected to the All-Area Second Team as a junior by the Daily Bulletin after she averaged 13 points, about four assists and four steals per game. Walker has record at least 10 ppg all three years she's played on varsity and is already off to a 2-0 start with the SkyHawks this year according to MaxPreps.com.

When it came to her collegiate recruitment, Walker said the community and sense of belonging she felt during her visits at Biola were some of the deciding factors in her choice to join the Eagles: 

"I chose Biola because it feels like home," said Walker. "The people I met when I first stepped onto campus showed compassion and I truly loved that type of environment, so I decided it was a necessity in my college journey."

Walker plans to major in Kinesiology at Biola and hopes to eventually work in the sports medicine field as a physical therapist or athletic trainer. After her final year at Summit, she will join her new teammates at Biola in August 2020.
