GARDEN GROVE, Calif. --- Abby Chavez' list of accomplishments at Pacifica High School is as wide-ranging as it is impressive. But the common thread that runs through all Chavez has achieved is her motivation to have a positive impact wherever she goes: she's done that at her church and in Pacifica's student government. And she's certainly done that on the soccer field, where Chavez has helped the Mariners become the class of the Empire League since she was permanently added to the varsity squad as a sophomore. 

Chavez and the Mariners' quest for a three-peat as Empire League Champions begins in December. But following her final year at Pacifica, the forward will join Biola Women's Soccer as the Eagles continue their push to become a perennial power in the PacWest. 

The Empire League is the same girls soccer league that recently awarded All-PacWest midfielder Halie Jamir played in before joining the Eagles for the 2019 season. Chavez is coming off back-to-back First Team All-Empire selections over her sophomore and junior seasons, scoring 19 goals and assisting on 14 others over those two years according to MaxPreps. 

She was named her team's Offensive MVP last year after scoring eight times and recording 10 assists while helping Pacifica to a 14-4-3 record. And the Mariners have gone to CIF playoffs three times with Chavez on the varsity roster, including a run in 2018 that carried Pacifica all the way to the CIF Southern Section Division 3 Championship Game and to the CIF Regional Semifinal. 

Chavez' list of athletic accomplishments also includes a National Cup semifinal appearance with her CDA Slammers club team, earning her team's perseverance award as a middle hitter on the Mariners' volleyball team and qualifying for the CIF meet in the 100m dash as a sprinter on the track team. 

Away from sports, Chavez was elected as her junior and senior class president, volunteers in her church's children's ministry and youth band and has been listed on the Principal's Honor Roll every semester she's been eligible. 

She hopes her time at Biola will help form and direct her God-given desire to serve others and is excited to join the tight-knit community Head Coach Erin Brunelle has instilled in the women's soccer program:
 
"When I found out about Biola and all of the amazing things people said about the school, I knew that I had to look into it more," said Chavez. "I know that the next four years of my life with my new family will be life changing and I am going to grow stronger in my faith than ever before. I love the community and the support that the people and teams at Biola provide and I could not be more grateful to be able to attend this school."
