LOS ANGELES --- Head Coach Jeff Calhoon was excited that the expansion of his recruiting scope in the cities around Biola resulted in the signing of middle infielder Andrew Lujan.Â
With one more varsity season still ahead of him, Lujan is a two-time First Team All-Almont League selection from Schurr High School and has also been named a San Gabriel Valley Underclassman All-Star. He's been chosen as the Trojans' team MVP twice and has helped Schurr win 11 games in Almont League play each of the last two years.Â
Additionally, the Trojans have qualified for the CIF Southern Section playoff all three years Lujan has been on the varsity roster.Â
Lujan is also a great student, maintaining a GPA that earned him Honor Roll student recognition at Schurr while also planning to major in biology when he enrolls at Biola. The infielder's strong focus on his studies, combined with his smooth left-handed swing and a glove that plays at all four spots between the first and third-base bags made Lujan a sought-after addition for Coach Calhoon and the Eagles' coaching staff:Â
"Andrew is a student-athlete that we are excited to get into our system next fall," said Coach Calhoon. "He brings another left-handed bat to the infield and has the ability to play all four infield spots. His combination of academics, athletics, and faith make him a great example of the type of young men we are looking for at Biola. I cannot wait to see Andrew's development in our weight program and on the baseball field over the next four years!"
The chance to develop was also one of the key reasons Biola seemed like the best fit for Lujan. By committing to the Eagles, the Los Angeles-native gets the opportunity to play collegiate baseball within striking distance of home while being mentored by faculty and a coaching staff that are committed to maximizing his potential as a baseball player and person:
"I chose Biola University because of the great spiritual education I will receive as well as the amazing atmosphere and people that are present at this school," said Lujan. "I'm really looking forward to getting on the field and being a part of something great with the rest of the team and the coaching staff as an Eagle!"
Andrew Lujan will join his new teammates in August of 2020 and begin fall practices shortly thereafter. More information on the incoming 2020-21 class that will join him at Biola can be found on the
Committed Athletes page.
