D2CCA RELEASE
 

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- After earning her second-straight All-PacWest First Team selection on Tuesday, sophomore midfielder Katelyn Penner was recognized on the D2CCA All-West Region Second Team on Wednesday. 

Penner is the first Biola soccer player to appear on a D2CCA All-Region team and was one of just three underclassmen from the West Region to earn the honor. A total of five women from PacWest teams were named to the All-Region first and second teams. 

"Once again, Katelyn continues to impress with her outstanding play not only at the conference level, but within the West Region as well," said Head Coach Erin Brunelle. "There are so many phenomenal teams and players in the West Region, so this is a huge accomplishment for Katelyn and our program to be recognized. 

"Our coaching staff is constantly trying to expand Katelyn's game knowing that she will soak up every piece of instruction and immediately apply it to the next play," continued Brunelle. "She is a joy to have on the team and we are blessed to have someone of her caliber in our program." 

Penner tied for the team-lead with four goals in 2019 and was in the top-five in the PacWest for game-winning goals with three. She played every minute in 13 of Biola's 18 matches this season, including two double overtime matches and 10 contests against PacWest opponents and showed great touch on the ball to navigate around opponents and in the penalty area. 

The D2CCA Player of the Year award and all-region teams are nominated and selected by the region's sports information directors.
 
The D2CCA encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of high education.  The D2CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact NCAA Division II athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
