ST. GEORGE, Utah --- Biola Women's Swimming hit the road, taking a charter to St. George, Utah this weekend for a head-to-head dual against former PacWest Conference and Pacific Collegiate Swim & Dive Conference school, now Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference school, Dixie State.

The Eagles and Trailblazers did battle in Dixie State's first-ever on-campus swim meet. It was a good, competitive meet in a beautiful new facility opened to celebrate DSU's transition to NCAA Division I and the Western Athletic Conference, which takes place next year.

Dixie State came away with a 122-80 victory, but the meet provided some more valuable head-to-head experience for Head Coach Ryan Kauth's young, developing and deep women's swim & dive roster.

It was just swimming on Saturday, with the two teams competing in nine individual events and a pair of relays. After not swimming any relays their last time out, Biola picked up solid points this go-around taking the top two spots in the 200-freestyle relay with Dixie State's three teams failing to register a mark.

Kasidee Pascoe, Kellyn Hayes, Audrey Vermeulen and Rachel Stinchcomb were the top finishers for BU in that race, carding a 1:43.99.

The Trailblazers happened to have the top two teams in the meet's opening relay, winning the event with an 'A' team time of 3:59.06. Dixie State is a team that finished third in the incredibly-competitive RMAC last year and are expected to compete to win this season. 

DSU got wins in all but two of the individual events. Liza Parahnevich continued to impress by winning both the 400-IM (4:36.40) and the 200-backstroke (2:07.22). Her wins were both by more than FOUR seconds. 

The 1,000 freestyle, which was the first individual event, was a strong showing for Biola. Vermeulen (11:07.64), Hayes (11:17.36) and Kaylyn Schull (11:42.86) took second, third and fourth to nab a bunch of points for BU in the early going.

Katelyn Harper had a top-3 finish to go with Parahnevich's win in the 400-IM. Harper went 4:48.68 to finish third, about five seconds ahead of Dixie State's second finisher. 

Although it didn't pick up the victory, Biola's swimmers had a solid run in the 200-butterfly. Anna Cohee logged a second-place swim with a 2:16.05 and veteran team leader Rachel Stinchcomb went 2:20.23 to finish third and help keep things close.

Nicole Chang finished second to Parahnevich's first in the 200-backstroke. She went 2:11.01 to finish three seconds above the fastest DSU swimmer in that event. Only problem for Biola is that the third, fourth, fifth and sixth swimmers in the race all represented the Trailblazers.

Finally, Hayes (5:26.33) and fellow freshman Kolya Vos (5:26.59) swam eerily similar marks in the second-longest event of the day, the 500-freestyle. That helped BU account for second and third in the event and allowed Hayes to post a really solid day at the pool.

Biola begins its drive back to La Mirada now, where it will spend the next few weeks preparing for the pinnacle event of the fall season, the La Verne Collegiate Winter Invite. The Eagles will be picking up their fastest times of the fall at that three-day meet, hoping to qualify some swimmers for the NCAA Division II national championships for the first time.

The meet takes place at East LA College on December 6-8. It's the final event of the fall semester for both men and women's swimming & diving.
