LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Swim & Dive had a fantastic weekend at the UC Santa Cruz Slug Shootout and Bay Area Invitational, and the team's been rewarded with three weekly awards for the Pacific Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference.

Both Liza Parahnevich and Raymond Kam were named the PCSC's NCAA Division II Swimmers of the Week and Ashley Vitale earned the PCSC NCAA Division II Diver of the Week.

Parahnevich has made quite the impression in her short amount of time with the Eagles. This past weekend she helped the women's team finish second in both the Slug Shootout & Bay Area Invitational. The Eagles won the combined score championship at the Bay Area Invite.

The freshman was excellent individually winning six of her seven individual events and also participating to a relay win at Saturday's invite.

"Liza was fantastic this past weekend," said Head Coach Ryan Kauth. "Even in events that took her out of her comfort zone, she was able to succeed incredibly well. She showed why she is one of the best swimmers in the PCSC, and with a start like this, why she could be in the conversation of qualifying for NCAA's by year's end."

Raymond Kam helped the guy's team win the Bay Area invitational outright and also contributed to the combined score win. He won two events and finished top-5 in all but one of his individual events throughout the week.

The men's relays were also strong throughout the pair of meets, finishing second in one relay and winning two others.

"Ray, for the two years that I have been here, has always looked for an opportunity to showcase his talents and leadership. He looks for a chance to be the spark the team needs to be successful, and this weekend was no different," said Kauth. "Not only did Ray have great outings in all of his races, but he showed strength and confidence in the way he attacked each of them."

Finally, Vitale set season-bests in both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at the Slug Shootout. She placed third in the 1-meter board with a 209.6.5 and second in the 3-meter board with a 201.5.

"Ashley's performance has been stellar! Every day she works hard to improve her dives, it's exciting to coach and watch her exceed expectations," said Diving Coach Lisa Treguboff. "Finishing third on 1-meter and 2nd on 3-meter last weekend proved that. I am so proud of her!"

The Eagles have a big week ahead with a home-and-home meet against Azusa Pacific on Friday, November 1 (at Biola) and Saturday, November 2 (at APU).
