Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Back In Business

Biola Men's Basketball begins road trip with a decisive win.

BELMONT, Calif. --- After a long day of travel on Friday, Biola Men's Basketball came out ready to take care of business in game one of its four-game Northern California road trip. The Eagles snapped a four-game PacWest losing streak with an impressive 82-54 defeat over hosts Notre Dame de Namur.

It wasn't all roses from the very start for Biola, as the team took a little while to establish itself on offense, scoring just 14 points in the first 23 minutes of the game, beginning the night just 6-for-19 from the field (.315) before making five of its final six shots of the first half to extend to a double-digit halftime lead at 31-21.

A big part of that late run was four consecutive three-point attempts (and makes) by the Eagles, including two threes from Trevor Treinen and one each from Alex Wright and Whitten Dominguez. That stretch took the game from 19-15 all the way to 31-18.

Biola would end up raising its field goal percentage to .423 by the end of that first half to help it go into the locker room feeling cautiously optimistic.

All caution would fall by the wayside in the second half as the Eagles absolutely exploded on offense. They outscored the Argos 51-33 in the final 20 minutes and had their best single-half field goal percentage of the season, shooting 20-of-28 (.714).

Alex Talma was a big part of that second-half, going 3-of-3 from the field and 2-of-2 from the line to provide eight of those 51 second-half points and pace the effort in terms of efficient shooting.

Biola's lead would balloon as large as 31 points late in the second half, before ultimately settling in at the 28-point final margin. Will Shannon's only bucket of the game (1-for-1 shooting) is the one that got Biola its 31-point advantage at 81-50 with 33 seconds left on the clock.

Shannon was one of 11 Eagles to finish with points in this one, a new season-high in terms of number of scorers. The leading scorers were Treinen (16), Talma (16), Michael Bagatourian (12) and Wright (10).

Bagatourian continued to show his ability to pick and choose the right time to shoot, going 5-of-6 in his 24 minutes, while also adding eight rebounds and three assists. Talma led the team with 13 rebounds, recording his sixth double-double of the season. Aside from he and Bagatourian, no other Eagle had more than two boards. The two teams finished dead even with 31 rebounds a piece.

Defensively, Biola had its best blocking game in almost two months, finishing up with five blocks. Five players had one block a piece for BU, including Shannon and Dominguez.

The win allows BU to shake out of the funk it's been in against good competition in the last few weeks and should allow the team to attack the rest of this NorCal schedule in good spirits. The team improves to 7-6 (3-4 PacWest), while the Argos drop to 0-13 (0-7 PacWest).

Next up for Biola is Academy of Art (3-9, 3-4 PacWest) Monday at 7:30 p.m.
