LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Sophomore slugger Ryan Gallegos added another line to his list of preseason honors on Tuesday after the National College Baseball Writers' Association named Gallegos to the Preseason All-American First Team on Tuesday.

The Scottsville, California-native was the one of just three PacWest student-athletes to be named a Preseason All-American and the only student-athlete from the West Region to land on the First Team. Gallegos earned Preseason All-PacWest and All-West Region distinctions last week and becomes the second Biola Eagles to be recognized nationally by the NCBWA. Right-handed pitcher Daniel Jang was given an All-American honorable mention by the NCBWA last year.

Gallegos took over the DH role midway through the 2018 season as he tied for the team-lead in home runs with 10 and and was in the top-10 hitters in the conference for five major offensive categories. He finished the season with a team-high 23 extra-base hits, a .427 on-base percentage and was only freshman to drive in 50 runs a year ago.

Point Loma outfielder Micah Pries and Fresno Pacific starting pitcher Alex Garcia were also recognized as All-Americans while Azusa Pacific debut at No. 12 in the first Top-25 National Poll of the year. Last year's West Region Champion, UC San Diego, was the top-ranked team in the region at No. 4.

Biola was ranked No.8 in the West Region poll released last week and will open its 2019 season on February 4 against an in-region foe in Cal State LA. First pitch on Monday at Reeder Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
