Biola holds the Westcliff Warriors to under 30 points in its return to Chase Gym after three weeks of road games.

January 22, 2019

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The Biola Eagles returned to Chase Gym for their first action at home in three weeks on Tuesday, hosting the Westcliff Warriors in an exhibition.

After a brief delay to the tipoff due to the late arrival of the Westcliff staff and the resulting lull in scoring to start the game for Biola, the Eagles shot 49 percent from the field land rattled off 80 points in a 80-29 win.

It was slow going in the first five minutes of the game for Biola as Westcliff took a 5-0 lead after 60 seconds and had the game tied at 9-9 after five minutes. But the defense the Eagles played over the previous four minutes to limit the Warriors to one field goal continued as Biola's offense woke up. Head Coach Alan Nakamura's group scored 12 unanswered points after the first-quarter media timeout to take a 21-9 lead and then limited the visiting team to nine points against in the second quarter to build a 39-18 lead at halftime.

Biola finished out the game by limiting Westcliff to three field goals in the second half, none of which came in the fourth quarter, and shutout the Warriors for the final eight-and-a-half minutes of the game. Meanwhile, the Eagles offense scored 41 points in the final 20 minutes and saw nine women score at least six points or more in the game.

Mikayla Greens led the team with 12 points and seven rebounds and was followed closely by Jazz Benn and Danita Estorga, both with 10. Five of Estorga's seven rebounds were on the offensive glass while the freshman also posted four steals and three assists.

The Eagles also ended the game with every member of the team contributing points, 40 points in the paint and 34 points off the bench.

Biola returns to PacWest play on Saturday when the Eagles host the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
