LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Swim & Dive began gearing up for the home stretch of its 2018-19 season with a head-to-head dual against Concordia Irvine at Lansing Pool on Saturday morning.

The visiting Eagles claimed victory on both the men and women's side, but it was a celebratory day for BU no matter what, as the team had a chance to celebrate its seniors during the final "home meet" of the new season.

In addition to celebrating the seniors, the Eagles recognized the positives of this meet, despite the losses. Head Coach Ryan Kauth called it a humbling experience that would become a positive as a motivator in the long run.

"This went the way the coaching staff expected it to go. We've spent the last week and a half really breaking down their bodies. We really focused on training hard and that showed today," said Kauth. "We realize we've gotten better and improved over the last year, but we're still a few steps behind the best in the conference, which is where we want to be next year. I am really proud of the way they swam and competed."

The CUI men took a 141-63 win and the women had a final score of 150-55.

Clayton Owens and Raymond Kam were responsible for the Eagles' only individual victories on the day. Owens won the 200-backstroke with a 2:02.79. Kam took the victory in the final individual event of the day, the 200-breaststroke, with a 2:12.82. His victory came in a dogfight, as he out-touched his opponent by just four-hundredths of a second.

Biola's 'A' relays did well throughout the day - competing in almost every relay. The closest was the group of Annie Bristow, Rachel Stinchcomb, Faith McAllister and Emily Silzel who's 1:42.70 was less than half a second behind CUI's winning group.

Owens, Kam, Jonathan Villa and Westin Dawe combined to WIN the men's 400-medley relay with a time of 3:40.94.

"I am really proud of the way we performed. We are right where we need to be going forward," said Kauth. "We are excited to start our taper next week. It's a four-and-a-half week, meticulous and detailed process. Ultimately, it will end with some really, really great results."

The Eagles have one more regular season meet left before PCSC Conference Championships. They compete at Chapman University the end of January (Jan. 26). PCSC will be held across the street at SPLASH! during the second week of February.
