Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Surprise Second Half Score Stuns BU

Biola falls to NDNU after a 49th-minute goal makes the difference.

BELMONT, Calif. --- After a very even first half, Biola Men's Soccer dominated possession and chances in the second half, but it was Notre Dame de Namur who found a go-ahead goal and came away with a 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles' only goal came just seconds before halftime when Leo Thompson managed to bury the first penalty kick attempt of his Biola career to knot the game at one headed into the break.

Both teams had their chances in the first half, with NDNU opening the scoring by heading in their first set piece effort of the game. At the break the score was tied at one and Biola had a narrow edge in shots at 3-2. Neither team could find rhythm too well though, because of a combined 18 fouls called in the first 45 minutes.

Coming out of the half, NDNU took advantage of an early opportunity when they passed a long, lofty ball over the back line of Biola and Josh Santillian managed his third goal of the season to put the Argos up 2-1.

NDNU would only have two more shots over the remaining 40 minutes as Biola really took strong control of possession in the second half. The Eagles continued to find open space at the top-center of the penalty box and were firing shot after shot towards the NDNU goal but just could not break through.

Biola would lead the Argos in second-half shots, 9-5. There was once again a lot of interruptions from the referee with 17 fouls and four cards handed out.

Biola suffers its first loss of PacWest Conference play and falls to 3-5-1 (1-1 PacWest). NDNU improves to 2-6 (1-1 PacWest). The Eagles host Concordia Irvine (3-4, 1-0 PacWest) a week from today for their next match.
