AVON, Ohio --- Eagles alumni Micah Beyer became the first Biola baseball player in two years to sign a professional contract on Thursday when he joined the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League.

Beyer appeared on the All-PacWest Second Team in 2018, Biola's first year in the conference, and led the Eagles in innings pitched, strikeouts and wins. After four years with the program, Beyer recorded more starts (53) than any other Eagles pitched and tied former major leaguer Tom Worrell for most career strikeouts in Biola history with 330.

Lake Erie reached out to Beyer in late June after the right-hander briefly joined the So Cal Bombers and posted extremely impressive numbers in two outings. Beyer racked up 11 strikeouts in just five innings of work and only allowed one hitter to reach base safely against a Bombers team that is managed by Eagles' bench coach Andy Smith.  

Those numbers impressed the Crushers enough to tab Beyer as a mid-season acquisition who will hopefully help them push for playoff contention. Lake Erie is 25-22 at the time of Beyer's signing and just two games out of the top spot in the Frontier League East Division.

The Frontier League is an independent baseball league located in the Midwest and have called the Lake Erie Crushers a member since 2009. The 12 members of the Frontier League has sent many players to the minor leagues and Major League Baseball in recent years, with Tanner Roark and Vidal Nuno among the household names that have found regular success at the highest level.
