Announcement of Abigail Laberge's signing

Crossing Borders For Basketball

Guard Abigail Laberge commits to Biola after playing for a high-caliber team in Québec.

May 30, 2018

QUÉBEC --- Ever since Abigail Laberge was in high school, she has experience basketball and academics in a completely different context to the one she'll experience at Biola University. But the Québec's native's love for the game and strong work-ethic come through loud and clear, and those qualities should serve her well as she moves across the continent.

Laberge comes to Biola from Collège Montmorency, where she and the Nomades finished third in the Canadian National Championship. But Laberge looks back to her time at Collège Jésus-Marie as the place where she fell in love with the game of basketball. She played there for five years under high school coach Papa Mousse Wane and continues to carry gratitude for the way the coaches at Collège Jésus-Marie supported her.

"We are very excited to sign Abigail. As with all of our players, she is a God-send," said Head Coach Alan Nakamura. "Abigail personifies the character we are building into our program: she is a serious student and quality person who loves the game, puts the team above herself, has an outstanding work ethic. She is a versatile scorer who has played at a high level, and now is eager to take on the next challenge!"

Laberge has dual citizenship in Canada and the United States because her mother was originally from Mississippi. She has taken AP classes in calculus and plans to pursue a career in engineering after majority in engineering physics at Biola.

"I had been looking for a place for a long time that had great academics, competitive sports and a nice overall experience," said Laberge. "I found Biola at the end of the year and it matched all my criteria."

Laberge profiles as a shooting guard and wing scorer in the Eagles' system. She will begin fall classes and start training with her new teammates in September. You can see the rest of Biola's incoming recruiting class on the Committed Athletes page.
