WINONA LAKE, Ind. --- Biola Track and Field capped off its first day at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with an individual national champion and a pair of All-American relays.

The Eagles began the evening portion of the meet with Crystal Jardines leading the field in the women's 10,000m. Jardines won the event by just about a full minute with a winning time of 39:42.66. She led from start to finish and scored Biola it first points of the meet in the first completed event it was featured in.

After a men's 10k that didn't feature any Biolans, the night ended with a pair of thrilling 4x800m relays. The men's team stole the show in their event, finishing second with a time of 7:46.61, which is just .21 seconds off a 48-year-old school record.

Three of the four men ran splits that were better than their personal-bests in the 800m. It was Ryan St. Pierre's (anchor) first collegiate 800m race. Gabe Plendcio was the lead-off and split a team-best 1:55.06.

The women's team also placed second with a time of 9:34.52. The Eagles were just about eight seconds back from the winning team, Dallas Baptist. All four runners split between 2:22.2 and 2:25.2, with Kaitlyn Natividad leading the way with her time of 2:22.28 in the third leg.

At the end of the first day of competition Biola's women's team has accumulated 18 points and sits fifth in the meet standings. The men's side earned eight points with more sitting on the table in the form of Corry Williams' current first-place standing halfway through the decathlon.

The final day of competition begins at the Grace College track at 5:30 a.m. PT on Friday as Williams completes his decathlon over the course of the next four hours or so. The first non-decathlon event is the women's 3,000m steeplechase featuring Stephanie Croy (9:00 a.m. PT). Jardines will complete a busy meet when she joins three other Eagles in the 5,000m run in the late-afternoon.
