QUITO, Ecuador --- Biola Men's Tennis had an international student-athlete on its roster for the last four years in the form of Philip Westwood, who turned out to be one of the best players in program history. Now Head Coach David Goodman has another coming into the program with the addition of Andrés Meneses, who hopes to have a similar impact on the team.

Meneses comes to Biola from Quito, Ecuador, where he won many national tournaments and represented Ecuador at an international tournament in France. He has a Universal Tennis Rating of 12, which ranks players on a scale of 1 through 16.5.

"I chose Biola because it's the perfect fit college, not only for the amazing location and the incredible buildings it has, but also because it shares my principles," said Meneses. "I know God has chosen Biola as my place to develop all the things I have to offer."

Meneses will join the team for the 2019 season. He has not chosen a major just yet but is leaning towards communications. He is excited to begin studies at Biola because it will give him an opportunity to know new people and use his talents to glorify God.

This year the men's tennis team finished sixth in its first season in the PacWest Conference. With the departure of four seniors, Meneses will have a very fair shot of making an impact right way as he joins notable returners Derek James, Logan Blair, Quentin Lau and David Garcia.

The tennis team will play some exhibition tournaments in the fall and begin spring matches in February 2019, where you can catch Meneses competing at the newly renovated and expanded Biola Tennis Center.

"I will give my 100 percent in every aspect of it, so I can have excellent results not only in classes, but also on the tennis team," said Meneses.
