Eagles Offense Stalls In Irvine

Biola held to just one hit in 3-0 game one loss to CUI.

IRVINE, Calif. --- Biola Softball continued its recent offensive struggles in game one at Concordia University Irvine. BU was shutout for just the fifth time this season as Concordia won the matchup, 3-0.

Concordia scored one run in three separate innings as Biola's pitching staff managed to keep them at bay for most of the day. One run came off a solo homerun, one run came off a two-out double and the other was created early on thanks to a steal of second. Outside of the three lone runs Terri Van Dagens was very effective as she once again logged a complete game and held CUI to just six hits.

Biola was held to just one base runner through the entire game as its 30th win continues to be just out of reach. The Concordia Irvine freshman standout Callie Nunes held BU to just one fourth inning Ruth Munoz single. Munoz was retired on a double play, so Biola was held to the minimum number of batters for the second time in the last three games.

The Eagles will answer the standout start by Concordia's fantastic freshman pitcher with their own first-year standout, Paige Austin, in game two.

The loss drops Biola to 29-12 overall and 12-9 in PacWest Conference play. Concordia improved to 22-11 (11-6 PacWest). The two teams are back at in for game two of the doubleheader at just after 2:00 p.m.
