April 20, 2018

AZUSA, Calif. --- The crazy weekend continued for Biola Track & Field on Friday as there were Eagles in Azusa, Torrance and Long Beach with a majority of the action coming at the Bryan Clay Invitational.

Biola had runners and field athletes in competition from 8:00 a.m. all the way until about 10:15 p.m. out at the Azusa Pacific Track & Field Complex. Nine different Eagles set new personal-bests throughout the day at APU, highlighted by three PRs in the final event of the day - the women's 1,500m.

Stephanie Croy led the effort for Biola in the 1,500m. She set a three-second PR with a time of 4:41.60. She was 174th overall in the field of 300 or so. Hannah Hunsaker (4:47.44) set a PR that breaks her previous best by nine seconds. Kaitlyn Natividad's PR by was a bit less of that. Her time of 4:50.50 was about a half-second less than her previous PR.

The sprinters and middle distance runners accounted for a majority of the rest of those new personal-bests. Heidi Sowers ran :15.68 in the 100m hurdles for a new PR and Noah Strenn had a :52.42 in the 400m for solid showings in back-to-back events for BU.

Following the 400m was the 100m, which strangely saw three of Biola's four runners just one one-hundredth of a second shy of matching their personal-bests. Corry Williams went :11.87 to lead the men with Micah Hickerson coming in at :12.13. Sarah Rossiter was the third student-athlete to come just shy of her PR with a :12.89.

Shannon Howell set a new best mark in the 800m with a 2:23.73. It was Kaitlyn Natividad that led the Eagles' effort in that event though, finishing 115th with a 2:22.30

The men put up a solid showing in the 800m as well with Robbie Gleeson finishing top-100 with a 1:57.94 and Nic Nelson coming in less than a second behind him with a 1:58.08.

400m hurdles is another event that had multiple runners hit new personal-bests. Amelia DeYoung led the Eagles' effort with a 1:07.47, which beats her previous best tim by two seconds. Sowers was not too far back with a 1:08.13, which is half a second better than her previous top time.

Finally - Carissa Kalpakjian set a new top mark in the 200m with a   :25.82.

The field events saw no PRs for Biola, but Emily Shaw stood out by leading Biola in both the javelin toss (28.46m) and shot put (11.79m).

Away from Azusa the Eagles got some other strong performances, led by Emily Ransom's showing in the 5,000m at the Mt. SAC Relays. Ransom ran the best 5k of her career, finishing 24th in the heat with a 17:25.29. Mackenna Mason ran an 18:00.26 to finish 28th and sit about 23 seconds back from NCCAA Qualifying.
The 10k was being run at the Long Beach State Beach Invitational, where Kaili Waller (41:44.67), Taylor Lawsen (42:25.06), Timmy Wilson (34:11.14) and Christian Perez (34:40.28) represented BU.

The weekend concludes Saturday with a handful of student-athletes at Long Beach State.
