Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Eagles Solidify Sixth

Biola suffers 5-1 loss to Hawaii Pacific in the fifth-place match at PacWest.

SURPRISE, Ariz. --- Biola Men's Tennis saw its season come to a rest on Saturday in Surprise as it dropped the fifth-place match at the PacWest Tennis Championships, 5-1.

The Eagles were facing the Sharks of Hawaii Pacific for the first time this season and could only scrape out one match win against the tournament's No. 6 seed.

Two seniors combined for that doubles victory as Philip Westwood and Lucas Lee took the number one matchup, 8-5. That pairing has the first and second most doubles wins in program history as Westwood's tally of doubles wins comes to a close at 47 and Lee wraps his career up with 44.

Lee is the Eagles' all-time leader in singles wins with 39. He was in position to get win number 40 in this one but the match was called off as he was in the midst of a third set.

HPU had a 2-1 advantage after doubles play and won all three of the first three singles matches to finish to clinch the victory and finish one spot higher than their tournament seeding (fifth). Biola finished two spots higher than their seeding (sixth).

Biola's first NCAA Division II season ends at 7-15. The Eagles and Head Coach David Goodman are actively recruiting to add to the talent pool for next season, having to find a way to replace four valuable seniors.

Thanks to Lucas Lee, Philip Westwood, Michael Vartuli and Joe turnquist and their families for their contributions to the program. At the conclusion of the tournament, Westwood was honored with the conference's sportsmanship award.

The Eagles' spring season will begin next February, likely at the newly renovated Biola Tennis Center. To contribute to the ongoing improvements at the Biola Tennis Center please visit this giving page.
