LAWNDALE, Calif. --- Sierra Rangel from Da Vinci Design High School has an established reputation as a  goal-scorer and will make her way down the 91 freeway to join Biola Women's Soccer this fall.

Rangel is a four-time Offensive Player of the Year for her high school team, having led the Wolves in goals scored each of the last four seasons. She collected a total of 63 goals and 27 assists over that span and brings a skill set to Biola that adds more versatility to Head Coach Erin Brunelle's roster.

"Sierra is a dynamic attacking player who reads the game very well. She is constantly moving and scanning the field, and can cover a lot of ground," said Brunelle. "She is also a quality finisher and combines well with the players around her."

Rangel's game and scoring numbers have also translated to club competition, where she helped South LA United FC to a Cal South State Championship in 2015. She played for Fram FC the past two club seasons and also led that team in goals and assists for two years.

Off the field, Rangel has developed an interest in kinesiology and hopes to pursue a career in athletic training after her time at Biola. She also enjoys singing and was part of the worship team at her church, Hope Chapel Hawthorne.

"Sierra has a unique backstory and will bring diversity to our program," added Brunelle. "She has a strong faith in Jesus and we know the Biola community will only serve to help deepen her faith and understanding in all that He is doing in her life and in the lives of her family members."

As she reflected on her college search, Rangel said attending a school that strengthened her relationship with God was a priority for her and Biola was one of the institutions that stood out.

"I knew from my first visit, that Biola was where I wanted to go," said Rangel. "I loved the atmosphere and its tight-knit community. Everyone, from the minute I stepped foot on campus, welcomed me like I was meant to be there. The coaches, professors and my future teammates made me feel like Biola was home."

Rangel will join her new team for preseason training in August.
