Eagles Get Number 30

Biola beats Notre Dame de Namur 9-2 in game one to get win 30.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Terri Van Dagens was once again brilliant for Biola in leading the team to a 9-2 victory over Notre Dame de Namur in game one while racking up a career-high 12 strikeouts.

The Eagles' offense had chances to score in every inning, but their best output came with four runs in the second and four more runs in the sixth. All four runs in the sixth inning came with two outs as Biola found a way to maximize its offensive opportunities.

The barrage of scoring began in the bottom half of the second as BU had its first six batters of the inning reach base successfully thanks to five singles and a walk. The first three to reach loaded the bases and the next three all drove in one run a piece with their singles. The fourth run came home on the first out of the inning as a groundout to second base allowed Haley Martinez to score.

The Argos were able to answer back in the very next half-inning when Van Dagens made her only mistake of the game with two outs in the third. A single and fielder's choice allowed NDNU's first two batters to reach in that inning before Van Dagens was able to get the next two outs in order. However, with two outs the Argos' cleanup hitter came up with a two-run single to cut the game to 4-2.

That would be it for the Argos though as Van Dagens went the rest of the game only allowing one base runner, while recording seven of her final 12 outs via strikeout.

Biola expanded its lead by one in the fourth with a two-out RBI double from Kayla Neff and then got the rest of its runs scored in that sixth thanks to run-scoring hits from its big boppers Selina Sherlin, Areana Ramos and Hailey Boyett.

With the seven-run lead in tow Van Dagens got a strikeout and back-to-back popups to set the Argos down in order and end the game.

The win pushes Van Dagens to 11-6 on the season and lifted Biola to 30-13 to give the Eagles their first 30-win season since 2015. The Argos fell to 11-33.

The second game of the doubleheader is scheduled for a 2:20 p.m. start time. View the game at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/biola/.
