LA MIRADA, Calif. --- In an overwhelming takeover of the HERO Sports poll, the fans, friends and teammates of senior Micah Beyer made the Eagles' ace the runaway winner of the vote for best pitcher in the PacWest Conference.

HERO Sports recognizes the best individual performances in NCAA sports and chose to include Beyer in its vote for best pitcher in the PacWest after the senior became the conference leader in strikeout just last Saturday with a total of 74. The poll opened on April 5 and closed on Thursday with Beyer receiving 52 percent of the vote.

Freshman Garrett Irvin from Point Loma was the early leader in the poll through the weekend with about 300 votes. But a push from Beyer's supporters that began on Monday shot Beyer past all competitors and made him the only selection with over 1,000 votes at 1,204.

Irvin finished in second place with 731 votes after posting excellent numbers for the Sea Lions. His only loss of the year came on March 29 when Beyer and the Eagles clipped Point Loma in a 1-0 pitchers' duel that you can read about here.

Beyer will look to continue his strong season this weekend as Biols hosts Holy Names University for a four-game series beginning on Thursday. Coming into the series with the Hawks, Beyer has collected at least 10 strikeouts in four of his last five starts and has completed at least seven innings of work in seven-straight outings.
