HAYWARD, Calif. --- Biola Track & Field sent its distance runners up north to compete in one of the largest meets of the year at the annual San Francisco State Distance Carnival.

The Eagles spent all day at the Chabot College track as the deep field ran just five events from 8 a.m. all the way up until after 9:00 p.m.

The day began with the longest event of the competition, the 10,000m run. Emily Ransom led the charge in this event as she set a new personal-best. Ransom ran a 37:37 to finish 26th in the field of about 60. The mark was 90 seconds faster than her previous best collegiate mark. Newcomer Crystal Jardines was not too far behind. She ran the course in 37:49 in her first run of the 10k this year.

Ryan Thompson was the only male in the 10k and he finished 32:29 to set a mark just 13 seconds short of his best run. He was good enough for 14th in his heat.

Biola also had runners in the 1,500m, 3,000m steeplechase and a bunch of competitors in the 5,000m.

Kaitlyn Natividad led the way in the 1,500m with a season-best 4:51. All three of Biola's representatives in the women's race came in under five minutes. Robbie Gleeson was the standout on the men's side with a 4:03 that put him in the top 50 percent of the 131-man field.

Chris Campbell was the only Biolan in either 3,000m steeplechase race on Friday. He completed the course in 10:46 to finish 18th in his heat.

Biola then skipped the 4x400m relay races which were the final event before the night's ending event, the 5k.

Stephanie Croy had a remarkable run to lead the women's effort and finish sixth overall in her heat and 38th in the 151-woman field. She posted a time of 17:32, which was almost 40 seconds faster than the rest of her teammates as she had a true standout effort.

Mackenna Mason (18:08), Hannah Hunsaker (18:29), Kaitlin Quaid (18:36), Kaili Waller (19:08), Taylor Lawsen (19:14) and Mandy Reyes (19:22) rounded out the deep flock of Eagles competing in the event.

The night concluded with six Eagles appearing in the men's 5,000m run. The top-3 of those six all finished within five seconds of one another and placed in the top half of the field of 226. Gabe Plendico (14:57) led the way, followed by Gio Orellana (14:58) and Ryan St. Pierre (15:02). It was a personal-best time for all three men.

The other half of this Eagles' bunch competes on Saturday in San Diego as the sprinters and field athletes are at the UC San Diego California Collegiate Open. Follow the meet live with results at http://www.finishedresults.com/results.
