VISTA, Calif. --- Defense has the been the first ingredient of Biola's winning formula for the past three seasons since Head Coach Erin Brunelle took over the program.

The Eagles ended their run to an NCCAA National Title in 2017 by playing their last 807 minutes without conceding a goal and will look to continue that streak with the help of transfer, Alyssa Chavez.

Chavez is a defender coming to Biola from San Diego Mesa College, where she started 39 matches for the Olympians and earned two all-conference recognitions. She also helped San Diego Mesa to a combined record of 17-1-2 in conference play over that span.

"Alyssa brings collegiate soccer experience at the community college level and will help bolster our backline," said Head Coach Erin Brunelle. "Alyssa plays bigger than her small frame would suggest and is tough in 1-v-1 battles. She trains with intensity and we look forward to her teammates feeding off of the way she trains. We are also excited for Alyssa to experience college life alongside her sisters and brothers in Christ."

In high school, Chavez won a CIF championship with Rancho Buena Vista in 2015 and picked up two defender of the year awards. She was on the honor roll all four years at Rancho Buena Vista and will continue her education at Biola as a kinesiology major.

Chavez will add an emphasis on physical therapy and hopes to pursue a career in physical therapy after graduate school.

"I chose Biola because I believe I will be able to grow spiritually, academically, and athletically during my time there," said Chavez. "It is the whole package for me and I could not be more excited to start my journey as an Eagle."
