Eagles Upend Sharks

Biola wins by shutout in game one of two at HPU.

KANEOHE, Hawaii --- Another fantastic start by Terri Van Dagens paired with clutch two-out production to lift Biola to its 12th-consecutive win on Thursday afternoon at Hawaii Pacific.

The Eagles and Sharks played scoreless softball through the first two innings until Biola was able to crack open the scoring in the top of the third, with a little help from the HPU defense.

A Jay Perez batted ball had the chance to be the third out of that inning and keep the game scoreless, but an error from the Sharks not only allowed Perez to reach, but it also allowed Ruth Munoz to cross the plate as the game's first run. A few plays later Selina Sherlin came up with a two-base hit to double the lead at 2-0.

Van Dagens held the other team scoreless in the third and fourth innings to end her outing with four innings of three-hit ball.

The Eagles once again doubled their lead in the fifth inning as two-out RBI hits from Hailey Boyett and Areana Ramos made it 4-0 with just two-and-a-half frames left.

Paige Austin came in to close the game out in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and she did just that. The freshman faced just one batter over the minimum (one hit) and struck out four.

The 12-game winning streak is the longest the team has put together since it won 13 in a row in Feb. 2014. The all-time record winning streak was 20-straight back in 2002.

Biola and HPU have one more contest before the Eagles move on to a doubleheader with Hawaii-Hilo on Saturday. That game begins at 5:40 p.m. PT on Thursday. Follow live stats at http://sidearmstats.com/hpu/softball/ and live video at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/biola/.
