Beyer Named Pitcher of the Week

Beyer given the national honor after a strong start against Hawai’i Pacific on Saturday.

February 26, 2018

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Micah Beyer was named NCCAA Pitcher of the Week on Monday after going seven innings for a win on Saturday against Hawai'i Pacific University.

This is Beyer's third weekly award after he won GSAC pitcher of the week twice during Biola's tenure in the NAIA.

Beyer allowed just two runs and went seven strong innings to help Biola to its first PacWest win in program history on Saturday. With his seven strikeouts on the day, Beyer has now recorded at least seven strikeouts in all of three of his starts in 2018 and has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 28-to-1. He did not allow a free pass on Saturday and only had three 3-ball counts.

"Micah is a quiet and tireless competitor whose commitment to quality preparation has led to this last start and the previous strong outings we have come accustomed to," said Head Coach Jay Sullenger. " He pounded the zone early and often and refused to give in. We are thankful God has brought him to Biola!"

After the 4-3 win, Beyer improved to 2-0 on the year with a 2.25 ERA. He is expected to get another start in Hawai'i this weekend against University at Hawai'i at Hilo. But until then, the Eagles have another doubleheader with the Hawai'i Pacific Sharks to play on Monday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (PT).
