With Point Loma's struggles through its first seven games of the season, its seems the Sea Lions are still adjusting to life without 2017-18's PacWest Co-Player of the year Roya Rustamzada, who they served as the base for PLNU's offense and defense a year ago. But it's not as though the Sea Lions are missing a lot of shots or are getting blown out, they just haven't been able to command the supporting factors of a game that would cause them to control the outcome. The Sea Lions are averaging a tick over 18 turnover per game and have produced under 40 rebounds in five of their six games. That said, PLNU is coming off a convincing 83-55 win over Academy of Art to begin PacWest play and scored 65 points against Dominican, one of the most-regarded teams in the conference. Sophomores Cara Liggins and Sydney Peterson lead the Sea Lions in scoring with 13 and 17 points per game, respectively. But it figures the Eagles will invest a lot of their game-plan in Peterson since she is a more efficient scorer that Liggins through the first seven games.

How Biola fares against Point Loma may be a strong indicator of what could come in Saturday's matchup with a 1-5 Concordia team. Both CUI and the Sea Lions went 0-2 in the non-conference portion of their schedule against Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Marcos, posted a big win against Academy of Art and lost to Dominican. Like Point Loma, Concordia still does not have a win at home, but the green Eagles have PacWest-favorite Azusa Pacific coming to Irvine on Wednesday. Concordia has four women who average 10 points or more, but it's taken a ton of shots to get the makes they need for those points. As a team, CUI is averaging .228 from beyond the arc, making it difficult to play catch up once it has to play from behind and has played just two games this season in which its field goal percentage was over 35 percent. If Biola can exploit CUI's low shooting percentage from three and continue its recent trend of turnovers over the past three games, the Eagles in red have a great chance to repeat their 66-55 victory in Irvine from last year. In that game, Biola exploded for 26 points in the fourth quarter while allowing just six. Jazz Benn and Tatum Brimley tied for the team lead with 15 points and are likely candidates to repeat that accomplishment against since both women have reached double figures in four of the last six games for Biola.

CONCORDIA IRVINE TICKETING INFORMATION

LAST WEEK:
The Biola Eagles could not have had a much better start to its PacWest schedule through two games, taking two wins by an average margin of victory of 31.5 points. The Eagles offense was clicking right from the get-go of both games and extended across the whole team: Biola jumped out to a 12-2 advantage over Notre Dame de Namur on Thursday and had four double-figure scores then took a 12-0 lead over Holy Names before five women scored at least 10 points for the home team. Head Coach Alan Nakamura's group shot well, as it normally needs to in order to produce winning efforts. But the Eagles also rebounded quite well and chipped in a ton of assists to open up PacWest play. They raised their average rebounds per game by almost two full boards to 39.8 while dropping a total of 39 dimes in last week's contests. The trick now is to sustain all this positive momentum through the two matchups this week so the Eagles can be in the best position possible headed into their Cornerstone matchup on December 15: being a team with a 4-0 conference record and on an absolute roll. Recent history indicates that's certainly possible, as Biola went 4-0 against Concordia and Point Loma last year.
 

CONFERENCE TICKER:
The Eagles are one of four teams in the conference with a 2-0 record after the first week on conference play. Azusa Pacific bounced back from back-to-back losses at home that ended non-conference play with two big wins at the Felix Event Center against the same teams Biola beat. The Dominican Penguins have also drawn a lot of attention this past week after they posted double-digit wins over both Concordia and Point Loma to push their win streak to four games. Dominican guard Natalie Diaz currently leads the nation with 33 points per game after scoring 41 and 37 points in her last two games.
