SOUTH GATE, Calif. --- For the first time in school history, a Biola team came out number one at the end of a La Verne Collegiate Winter Invite. The men racked up 1,388 points over the course of three days in South Gate to take the top spot in the 6-team men's pool. The women's side fared very well, seeing two school records set and bringing in 1,303 total points to finish fourth in the nine-team women's field.

Nicole Chang continued to be the story of the meet as the freshman from Foster City broke a second school record after setting and resetting the 100-backstroke mark earlier in the week. She already broke the record with a prelim swim of just over 2:06, but then came out in the 200-backstroke finals with a 2:05.90 to finish second in the event and have a lifetime-best of over four seconds.

The final day of finals began with the longest swimming event, the 1,650-freestyle. Katelyn Harper was the Eagles' top finisher there, securing 23 points for BU with a seventh-place finish and time of 18:15.09. On the men's side, Noah Reed split between 30-31 seconds for each leg of the race to end with a time of 17:00.73 and finish fourth.

Harper followed up her 1,650 by being one of two Eagles to finish top-4 in the women's 100-IM. Faith McAllister led the way, placing third with a 1:01.81. Harper was just behind in fourth at 1:03.15.

Matthew Roe continued his great meet by winning the men's 100-IM with a time of :55.24. It was his first 100-IM swim. His 200-IM pr is 2:05.55, so this was not too shabby.

Clayton Owens and Jake Allen grabbed a combined 53 points for Biola with their second and fifth-place finishes in the 200-backstroke. Owens' finals time of 1:55.99 was six second faster than his prelim time and his previous collegiate-best.

The women's 100-freestyle was a tough nut to crack with over 60 swimmers in the field. Emily Silzel had to participate in the B-final, finishing ninth, despite having the sixth-best overall time (:53.28).

Freshman Westin Dawe set a new collegiate-best and finished fourth in the men's 100-freestyle, going :49.69. He a Rowe (:50.08) finished back-to-back in the finals for another huge point output for BU.

One of the biggest runaways of the day was Raymond Kam's win in the 200-breaststroke. He out-touched his closest competition by about six full seconds to win the event with a 2:09.88.

Rachel Stinchcomb set a new personal-best in the women's 200-butterfly to lead Biola's effort with a second-place finish (2:07.07). Annie Bristow won the second final of that same event with a 2:12.01, dropping a second and a half from her prelim time.

Finally, the Eagles' capped off the meet with a pair of top-5 showings in the 400-freestyle relay. The women placed fifth to earn 50 points as Silzel, Kasidee Pascoe, Stinchcomb and Rebecca Brandt.

The men brought in 56 points with their second-place finish. Their time of 3:17.64 was just about four seconds back from the winner, Chapman. Biola's 'A' team was powered by Rowe, Owens, Jonathan Villa and Dawe.

After a long, tough, rewarding fall, Biola Swim & Dive will take a bit of a break until they return for a home dual meet against Concordia Irvine at Lansing Pool on Jan. 12. The meet will be streamed live at portal.stretchinternet.com/biola.
