SOUTH GATE, Calif. --- Through two days of swimming at the Collegiate Winter Invite, things are looking great! Not only did Nicole Chang re-break her 100-backstroke record, but the Eagles also got a few event wins and maintained their spots in the team standings.

The finals began on a high note with two top-3 finishes in the 200-medley relay. The women took second of 23 teams and men took third in a pair of strong efforts.

After that, freshman Katelyn Harper had the first real standout performance of the day by winning the 400-IM with a lifetime-best performance. She took the title by posting a time of 4:34.17. She won the race by almost a full second and had the best time in the Pacific Collegiate Swim & Dive Conference this season. That was a good event for BU, with Kaylyn Schull also scoring points in seventh.

Next up was a second place finish by Raymond Kam in the men's 100-butterfly. It was an intense finish, with Kam posting a :52.49 to finish just behind the :52.18 from the winner out of Chapman. That was another big-point performance for Biola, with Jonathan Villa finishing fourth and Andrew Holmes eighth.

A pair of freshmen stood out when it came to the men's 200-freestyle. Clayton Owens was the team's top finisher, placing third with a 1:45.81. He was followed by Westin Dawe's 1:48.89 as the second freshman finished seventh.

Just a bit later in the day, Kam went head-to-head with the same swimmer from Chapman in the 100-breaststroke. This time, Kam is the one who came out on top. He won the race with a :58.49, to beat the other swimmer by over a full second.

Then came Chang's record-breaking performance. Having just broken the 100-backstroke last night in a relay, the freshman came out in the actual event Saturday evening and finished first place with a time of :57.76 to set the record once again. It was .41 seconds faster than Friday's time.

The 100-backstroke was a good event for Biola, as the men had a strong showing as well. Clayton Owens went :53.92 to finish second and Matthew Roe went :55.33 to come in seventh.

The day concluded with the 800-freestyle relay, where Biola's men placed second with a total time of 7:17.49. The women went 7:59.09 to finish fifth.

Headed into Sunday's final day of competition, things are looking good for Biola. The men's team maintained its first-place standing with 966 total points. They're 149 points of the second-place team, La Verne. The women held steady in third place with 864 points. It will be interesting to see how things shake out on Sunday with BU ahead of fourth-place Azusa Pacific by just 16 points.
