Biola Breaks Out Brooms, Again

The Eagles win in three to finish a perfect weekend and end road schedule.

BELMONT, Calif. --- Biola Volleyball completed the season sweep of Notre Dame de Namur with a sweep (28-26; 25-15; 25-16) on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles went to extra points to win set one, but then had a pretty smooth time the rest of the night to lock in their season road record at 10-2.

NDNU had its best set of the night in the first as they racked up 16 kills and had just four attack errors to force Biola all the way to extra play. The Argos won four consecutive points late in the set to even earn set point opportunities at 24-23, 25-24 and 26-25.

Biola was able to wiggle out of the late trouble with two kills from Sierra Bauder and a setting error on the NDNU side giving the Eagles the final three points of the game and the 28-26 win.

The final two games were all Biola as the Argos could only manage 15 more kills spread over the last two sets, while hitting just better than zero.

Meanwhile, Biola was as efficient as ever, ending the match with 53 kills to tie their season-best in a three-set match. They previously hit that number in last Friday's runaway win over Point Loma.

Bauder (13), Karly Dantuma (12) and Sabrina Winslow (11) led the offense, but it was a less likely candidate that actually sealed the match for BU. Vanessa Garcia, the Eagles' sophomore setter who led the game with 37 assists, added four kills of her own, including the match-clincher. Garcia came up one dig short of what would've been her sixth double-double of the season.

Biola's middle blockers were once again the stars of the show as Garcia was able to find them at will. Bauder had her 13 on a .571 hitting percentage, while Bekah Roth had her most kills in nearly a month with nine on a .353 clip. She was also in on three of Biola's five blocks.

Notre Dame de Namur's 135 total attacks kept BU busy from start-to-finish, but Biola's back row handled itself very, very well. Sami Hover ended up with 21 digs to top 20 for the 11th time this season. Kaitlin O'Brien chipped in 17 to set a new season-high.

The win improves Biola to 21-6 (17-3 PacWest) and sets them up for a busy week ahead. The Eagles host the NCCAA West Regional on Tuesday with matches at 9:00 a.m. and possibly 7:00 p.m. and then finish off the regular season with a 7:00 p.m. match on Friday and senior day festivities and a 1:00 p.m. match on Saturday.
