CORONA, Calif. --- Biola Baseball once again cast a line into the Inland Empire at the start of this year's recruiting cycle and found a keeper in Centennial corner-infielder Cody Smith.

A fishing aficionado in his spare time, Smith found a home in the culture and values of Biola's baseball program and committed to join the team for the 2019-20 school year. The Corona, California native serves as the club president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at Centennial High School and has played varsity baseball for the Huskies all four years of high school.

"I chose Biola because I felt at home as soon as I stepped foot on campus," said Smith. "I like the atmosphere and I feel that I fit right in with the other baseball players.  I am happy that I get to play baseball at a higher level, and to also grow in my faith with the Lord at the same time. "

Smith joins a number of Eagles from his hometown and high school league on the baseball roster, including Brandon Cody and Tyler Piston, who Smith matched up against Piston when Centennial played games against Capistrano Valley Christian. Piston and Smith will both fill corner infield spots for Biola come 2019-20, as Smith can play first or third base.

Academically, Smith carries a 3.5 GPA and plans to major in Business Administration at Biola with plans to develop his own business as an entrepreneur. Until then, he'll play one more season with the Huskies while the Eagles prepare for their second season in the PacWest.

Biola will open its 2019 season at Cal State LA on February 4 before hosting Hope International on February 6 for the Eagles' home opener.  More information about other incoming student-athletes can be found on the Committed Athletes page.
