Bauder Earns All-Region

Sierra Bauder becomes Biola Volleyball's first DII all-region player.

November 21, 2018

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Sierra Bauder, the 2018 Pacwest Conference Player of the Year, added to her resume on Wednesday, when it was announced that the senior middle blocker was named All-Region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

Bauder becomes Biola Volleyball's first all-region student-athlete in the NCAA Division II era. She's one of 16 first-time honorees on this year's west region list. The list includes 14 student-athletes on the all-region team and another six earning all-region honorable mention.

"It's great to have her recognized as one of the top players in the region. It couldn't happen to a better person," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. "She's always worked super hard. She's had to overcome some physical injuries. It's a testament to her heart, her character and her teammates. You can't get this award without a real good team around you."

Bauder and Azusa Pacific's Julianne Miller were the PacWest Conference's only representatives on a list dominated by CCAA and GNAC schools. CSU San Bernardino was the big winner, with the region player of the year and five players earning all-region honors.

Bauder played every set for the Eagles this season and led the conference and finished second in all of NCAA Division II with a .440 hitting percentage.

That mark broke the conference's single-season hitting record and was the best by a Biola hitter since Hall of Famer Becky Miller hit .456 back in 1985. Bauder ended the regular season with 294 kills and a team-leading 121 blocks. She was second in the PacWest in total blocks and fourth in blocks-per-set.

Bauder leads Biola into the National Christian College Athletic Association national championship tournament next weekend, beginning Thursday Nov. 29. The Eagles are the No. 1 seed headed into the tournament. They will begin with pool play, featuring Piedmont International University (N.C.), Campbellsville University (Ky.) and Southwestern Christian University (Okla.)
