LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was a ceremonious finish to the 2018 Biola Volleyball regular season on Saturday as the Eagles worked their seventh straight win with a 3-0 victory over Academy of Art (25-17, 25-12, 25-13).
It was senior day in Chase Gymnasium and the Eagles did all they could to cap the home careers of Hannah Van Warmerdam, Stephanie Jewett, Brinley Beresford, Karly Dantuma and Sierra Bauder in a positive way.
"First off, I love these seniors. I love what they are about. I love their hearts," said Head Coach
Aaron Seltzer. "I love the way they care about other people and what a great group of role models they are for our program. I think they leave it in great hands. They've poured into and shepherded this program to a successful year on and off the court."
The Eagles hit .351 and held the Urban Knights to a .039 number in another dominating performance. Biola's block was its biggest weapon on the day as the Eagles racked up 11 blocks for the second-consecutive match.
Sierra Bauder put on a clinic in the middle, pairing up with the hitters on either side for eight blocks on the afternoon. She was also third on the team with seven kills.
Biola trailed 6-3 in the opening set before rattling off 10-consecutive points to flip the script and take a big lead that would sustain them through the first set. That was the closest set of the afternoon. The Urban Knights hit .107 in the first game, their best number of the day.
The Eagles held ART U to .000 in both the second and third sets to finish off the sweep.
In addition to the blocks, Biola had a great day at the serving line. They had seven aces and just three service errors. Bekah Roth had three aces to lead the effort.
Christina DenBoer led the effort with nine kills, followed by Karly Dantuma's eight. Dantuma added four blocks to fall within three of 300 career blocks. She should hit that easily at NCCAA Nationals.
That's what's next up for this BU team, which finishes the regular season 25-6 (19-3 PacWest). They will head to Point Lookout, Mo. from Nov. 29 - Dec. 1 for the NCCAA National Championship.
