BIOLA (6-5-3, 4-2-1 PacWest) vs. Azusa Pacific 5-7-1, 5-1-1 PacWest): Saturday Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. \\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
After starting the season with one win in its first nine matches, Azusa Pacific has found a winning formula over the past four contests to climb to second place in the conference standings. Interestingly enough, the Cougars recent success has correlated with decreased dependance on leading scorer Ella Romero, who has scored just one goal since Sept. 22. After Romero's team-leading four goals, no Cougar has more than two goals. But nine individual student-athletes have scored for APU this season, including the seven individual scorers that have found the net during the Cougars four-match winning streak. One of the background factors that might have an impact on Saturday's match is the fact that Azusa Pacific will be playing its second road match in four days. APU's four-straight wins have come at home against PacWest teams traveling south from the Northern California pod. And three of those teams (Academy of Art, Dominican and Holy Names) are in the bottom half of the conference standings. The Cougars are 1-3-1 on the road this season and have yet to win a match against a team based out of cities south of Santa Barbara. They face off with Concordia later this afternoon, so that match up may provide a litmus test that will help Biola measure their Cornerstone Cup rival before Saturday.

Saturday's matches will be part of Saturday's events for Biola Family Weekend and free hot dogs will be available at the matches courtesy of Biola's Student Government Association. Admission to the matches for Biola students and alumni is free along with fans who have made arrangements through Biola's Admissions department. Otherwise, general admission is $6 and admission for opposing students is $4

BIOLA (6-3-3, 4-0-1 PacWest) vs. Point Loma (13-1-1, 8-0-1 PacWest): Saturday Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. \\ Live Stats\\ Live Video
Point Loma will be playing the Eagles in its first match after posting an impressive 3-0 record in Hawaii. Biola played the Sea Lions very close in a 1-0 loss to Point Loma in Sept., a match in which PLNU tucked in a goal with just 15 minutes left in regulation, and the PacWest's top team has continued that roll ever since. The Sea Lions have an exceptional goal scorer in Julia Glaser, a junior forward who has scored 12 times this season and collected nine game-winners. But Point Loma's success really depends on air-tight defense. The Sea Lions have only allowed three goals to opponents this season and a measly one goal against in the past 14 matches. The backline has been most responsible for those impressive results since goalkeeper Emma Hinson is only asked to make between two and three saves per match. The Sea Lions play Biola and Azusa Pacific to conclude their PacWest schedule and they currently need four points to clinch the conference title.

ABOUT LAST WEEK:
The Eagles two losses last week both followed a script that is not typical for Biola women's soccer matches. In both contests, Biola's opponent scored an early goal and put a damper on the Eagles' attack to earn a shutout. Before those two matches, Biola had scored multiple goals in three of the last four contests and saw goals come from six student-athletes over that span. Biola has the capability in its attack to outscore an opponent if it needs to, case and point being its two matches against Concordia this year. So the solution to the scoring drought might be as simple as continued work in practice to minimize mistakes and improve passes and finishes in the box.

CORNERSTONE CUP:
Biola is looking for redemption in year two of the Cornerstone Cup competition, which is presented by West Coast Sand & Gravel. The Eagles held a big lead in the head-to-head battle with Azusa Pacific in the 2017-18 year thanks to a strong fall, but eventually APU overtook the Eagles and took home the big trophy in year one. Biola and Azusa Pacific are tied with five point apiece after the Volleyball teams split their two meetings and 20 points are up for grabs this weekend with the two soccer matches.  The Following weekend both cross country teams will also vie for 10 points available for each sport at the PacWest cross country championships. Check back at athletics.biola.edu to see how all those meetings shake out.

WE'RE FINE WITH OVERTIME:
Biola is 3-0-3 in overtime matches this season and has come away with wins in two of its last three contests that have gone into extra time. Additionally, all three of the overtime game-winners for Biola came in the first sudden-victory overtime period.

GET OUT IN FRONT:
Biola has scored the first goal in half of its 14 matches this year and is 6-0-1 when it takes the early lead.

ONE WAY OR THE OTHER:
Since the beginning of the 2016 season, the results of Biola women's soccer matches have followed a pretty straight-forward pattern. When the Eagles score, they do not lose. In 53 matches since the start of the 2016 campaign, the Eagles are 38-0-6 when they score at least one goal and are 6-0-3 this season in that scenario. The last time Biola scored a goal and lost a match was Nov. 30, 2015 when the Eagles lost 2-1 in the NAIA National Tournament second round to Mobile (AL). And even that defeat was the only time that season when Biola lost after scoring a goal.

CONFERENCE TICKER:
The Eagles got some help in the PacWest standings from a number of matches this week that helped them stay in position to qualify for postseason play in the NCCAA West Regional. Concordia and Dominican were both prohibited from victories by Northern California teams last week while Hawaii Hilo matched Biola with two losses over its last two matches to keep the Eagles in third place. Biola needs to finish in the top-three of the conference standings in order to qualify for NCCAA postseason play. At the very top of the standings, Point Loma became the first PacWest team since 2016 to go 3-0 on a Hawaii road trip last week and now has a nine-point lead over second place Azusa Pacific with two matches to play. The Sea Lions wrap up their conference schedule on the road at APU after hosting Biola.
