BIOLA (4-3-2, 2-0 PacWest) vs. Concordia (3-3-1, 1-0 PacWest): Saturday Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. \\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
While the Eagles get a full week of practice to recoup and prepare for the third match of their PacWest slate, Concordia is faced with opposing a red-hot Point Loma team on Thursday after playing back-to-back double overtime matches. After squeezing out a 3-3 tie with Biola on Sept. 22, Concordia pushed Azusa Pacific into double overtime at the Cougars' home field before forward Carmany Jones buried a penalty kick in the 106th minute to pull out the non-conference victory. Jones has taken on the hero's role for CUI of late, scoring the equalizer in her team's matches against Biola and Fresno Pacific on Sept. 19, before recording the game-winner at APU. She is far and away Concordia's biggest threat in attack but CUI has also received goals from eight other student-athletes this season. It remains to be seen how this Concordia team that starts the week with a 2-0 record on the road will deal with traveling to San Diego on Thursday and La Mirada or Saturday but one things is for sure: Biola will be anxiously waiting for its second chance to defeat CUI after coming within inches of victory on several occasions in their last meeting.

ABOUT LAST WEEK:
The closing moments were tense at both ends of Biola's Northern California trip last week, but the Eagles came up with the big plays they needed in clutch moments to head back home with two conference wins to start PacWest play. In Thursday's 1-0 victory over Academy of Art, all of Biola's scoring chances finally boiled over when freshman Katelyn Penner weaved her way into the penalty area and finally beat Urban Knights keeper Morgan Wirz to the top left corner for the golden goal. Penner's first collegiate goal came with 11 seconds left in the first overtime period and was Biola's ninth test of Wirz after she made four first-half and four second-half saves. Then Biola benefitted from two additional step-up performances from freshmen on Saturday at Notre Dame De Namur, as midfielder Sierra Rangel buried the deciding goal via PK in the 65th minute and goalie Viviana Poli kept the Eagles ahead 2-1 with crucial saves in the final two minutes. Poli made nine saves in the match and six overall to support an attack that has been sharp for Head Coach Erin Brunelle over the past two weeks. Since they scored three goals at Concordia on Sept. 22, the Eagles have created nine shots-on-goal in each of the last two matches as their forwards have regularly found themselves on the end of dangerous opportunities. Junior Sarah Jeffries has played particularly strong in recent matches, scoring twice at Concordia in the 3-3 tie and taking six shots-on-goal during Biola's trip to Academy of Art and Notre Dame De Namur.

GET OUT IN FRONT:
After recording the initial goal in each of its two matches last week, Biola has now scored first in five of its nine matches this year and is 4-0-1 when it takes the early lead. The Eagles have recorded the first goal in three-matches straight and in four of their last five contests.

ONE WAY OR THE OTHER:
Since the beginning of the 2016 season, the results of Biola women's soccer matches have followed a pretty straight-forward pattern. When the Eagles score, they do not lose. In 48 matches since the start of the 2016 campaign, the Eagles are 36-0-5 when they score at least one goal and are 4-0-2 this season in that scenario, including both wins from last week. The last time Biola scored a goal and lost a match was Nov. 30, 2015 when the Eagles lost 2-1 in the NAIA National Tournament second round to Mobile (AL). And even that defeat was the only time that season when Biola lost after scoring a goal.

CONFERENCE TICKER:
Many of the PacWest teams are still jostling for positioning after the first two weeks of conference matches. The Eagles quick flurry of wins have already vaulted them into second place with six points while Academy or Art, preseason favorite Fresno Pacific and Notre Dame De Namur are all scrambling to keep up after taking multiple conference losses in the early going. The team to watch, and chase, going forward is definitely the Point Loma Sea Lions, who are now 3-0 in conference play and on a streak of seven shutout victories. Point Loma also plays its next four matches at home, three of which count toward PacWest standings, before embarking on its three-part trip to Hawaii. Biola will not travel to San Diego to face PLNU for its conference match until Oct. 29.
