BIOLA (6-3-3, 4-0-1 PacWest) vs. Hawaii Hilo (6-2-2, 3-1-1 PacWest): Tuesday Oct. 16 at 10 p.m. (PT) \\
Live Stats
The Vulcans have been the biggest surprise on the top half of the PacWest table through the first half of the conference schedule. Hawaii Hilo was undefeated with three victories before losing to Concordia in double overtime this past Thursday, so the Vulcans will be bringing a lot of confidence into their matchup with the Eagles on Biola on Tuesday. Like Biola, UH Hilo defeated Academy of Art 1-0 and also picked up a quality win at home against Azusa Pacific, who had a very similar Hawaii schedule to Biola in the fact that UH Â Hilo was the third opponent of the Cougars' trip. The key for the Eagles to win this match will be to push the Vulcans onto their heels early and come up with a second goal to make UHH play catch up. The Vulcans scored in the 15th minute against APU before taking an insurmountable 2-0 lead over a tired Cougars' team. But the Vulcans were unable to contain a Concordia team that scored twice against them last Thursday, so its seems like a hard ask for UH Hilo to score multiple goals to stay in a match.

The Sunbirds have righted the ship a bit with three PacWest wins since Sept. 17. Fresno Pacific went 0-6-1 in non-conference play, including an 0-4-1 record at home, and has scored one goal or fewer in nine of its 12 matches this season. The Sunbirds offense has woken up with 10 goals over its last four matches, but eight of those goals came against Holy Names and Notre Dame De Namur who have a combined four wins overall and a 1-9 PacWest record between them. Fresno Pacific has also had a lot of problems in goal, with 21 goals surrendered this season across three Sunbird goalkeepers. Alex Benevidez has started the past four matches for FPU and has provided some stability with a goals against average of 1.25. None of the Sunbirds' recent results will cause Biola to overlook them though, as the Eagles lost 2-0 in Fresno last year and produced just eight shots.
ABOUT LAST WEEK:
A lot of adjustments were demanded of the Biola Eagles during the first two parts of their three-match Hawaii road trip. Head Coach Erin Brunelle's group slogged through heavy rain on natural grass during the first half against Hawaii Pacific and still managed to erase a 1-0 deficit via a goal from Annmarie Alvarez to set up a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes. Then the Eagles jumped on Chaminade with a first half goal from Katelyn Penner to create the cushion they needed to navigate the narrow and flat artificial surface at St. Louis Field. Madi deMetropolis made sure the Eagles came away with three points by scoring a sudden-victory goal in the 97th minute for the 2-1 win.
WE'RE FINE WITH OVERTIME:
With a win and a tie in two overtime matches last week, the Eagles maintained their spotless record this season in contests that require more than 90 minutes to reach a decision. Biola is 3-0-3 in overtime matches this season and has come away with wins in two of its last three contests that have gone into extra time. Additionally, all three of the overtime game-winners for Biola came in the first sudden-victory overtime period.
GET OUT IN FRONT:
After recording the initial goal in each of its two matches last week, Biola has now scored first in seven of its 12 matches this year and is 6-0-1 when it takes the early lead. The Eagles have recorded the first goal in six of their last eight contests. Biola has also scored at least once in six-straight contests.
ONE WAY OR THE OTHER:
Since the beginning of the 2016 season, the results of Biola women's soccer matches have followed a pretty straight-forward pattern. When the Eagles score, they do not lose. In 51 matches since the start of the 2016 campaign, the Eagles are 38-0-6 when they score at least one goal and are 6-0-3 this season in that scenario, including both matches from last week. The last time Biola scored a goal and lost a match was Nov. 30, 2015 when the Eagles lost 2-1 in the NAIA National Tournament second round to Mobile (AL). And even that defeat was the only time that season when Biola lost after scoring a goal.
CONFERENCE TICKER:
Biola took sole possession of second place with Saturday's win and now has three points of separation between it and the three teams who have 10 points in third place. Third-place Dominican also did the Eagles a favor by managing a tie with Point Loma to halt the Sea Lions win streak. Point Loma is now with striking distance of Biola with 16 points in six matches while Biola has 13 in five contests. Point Loma duplicates the Eagles' Hawaii trip beginning next week before returning home for a pivotal matchup with Biola on Monday Oct. 29. Azusa Pacific now has the longest win streak in the conference with two victories that have pushed them into third place with a 3-1-1 record. The Cougars take on the Sunbirds on Thursday, two days before Fresno Pacific has to come to La Mirada.
