DeMoria Dominates From Deep

DeMoria White scores a season-high 33 points on 10 three-pointer to help Biola overwhelm Academy of Art.

SAN FRANCISCO --- After some getting some tough luck in the first quarter, DeMoria White and the Biola Eagles rolled through the Academy of Art Urban Knights like a runaway train on Monday and came away with its third-straight victory.

Biola started the game down 24-9 late in the first quarter because of some bad bounces off the rim. But the Eagles came roaring back with a 24-4 run in the last 10:33 of the first half to take command of a game that resulted in a 71-61 win.

Senior point guard DeMoria White did the lion's share of the Eagles' scoring as they pulled ahead, draining a career-high 10 three-pointers to record the best individual performance of the season for any Eagle with 33 points.

But White got considerable help from her teammates during the middle portion of the game to push the Urban Knights to arms-length very early in the contest. Brenna Khaw and Emma Newman had back-to-back scores in the last 33 seconds of the first quarter to start Biola's momentus run and pull the Eagles within 10 points at 24-14.

Then Tatum Brimley scored the first seven points of the second quarter to keep the home team up against the ropes.

All that said, Biola really changed the course of the game at the defensive end of the floor. The Eagles limited Academy of Art to just six made field goals and 17 percent shooting between the second and third quarter while Biola scored 45 points in that same span. The Urban Knights scored four and 14 points in the second and third periods, respectively.

Before ART U found its offense late in the game, Biola built its lead as high as 24 points in the fourth quarter. White made two final shots from distance in that quarter to finish one three shy of tying the program record for three-pointers made in a game (Annie Park with 11 on Feb. 25, 2017) and one point short of her career-high in points.

Not to be forgotten, Jazz Benn reached double figures for the fourth game in a row by scoring 10 points. And Mikayla Greens collected at least 11 rebounds for the third time in the last five games.

The Eagles now find themselves in fifth place and looking down at nine teams in the conference standings with a record of 7-6 in the PacWest, 10-9 overall. They will head into their much-anticipated rivalry game against Azusa Pacific on Saturday having won eight of their last 10.

Saturday's game against APU will be held at Biola and is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to guarantee their seat and to enjoy the pregame tailgate festivities sponsored by Biola Athletics, University Events and Alumni Relations.
