BELMONT, Calif. --- Biola Men's Basketball earned its first PacWest Conference winning streak on Saturday afternoon with a 60-52 defeat of Notre Dame de Namur on the enemy's home court.
The Eagles trailed for the first few minutes of the game, but once they took the lead in the middle of the first half they managed to hold onto it for the duration, despite NDNU finding a way to keep it close throughout.
Biola now has back-to-back wins for the first time since Nov. 18 and Nov. 21, which is setting them up well to be ready for next week's huge matchup with Azusa Pacific. Before we get to that point the Eagles still have work to do up north. On Monday they will play their third game in six days as they face Academy of Art in the evening.
Today's win over the Argonauts was a complete team effort, with all but one player getting on the board regularly. No Eagle reached double-digit scoring until over 30 minutes into the game because they were sharing the ball so well. The two teams turned it on a bit in the second half after combining for just 39 points in the first.
Isaiah Jones was the first player to reach double-digits as he ended with 14 and once again recorded a shooting percentage better than 63 percent. He's now shooting 59 percent for the season, which is second-best in the conference.
Trevor Treinen was the second Biola player to eventually hit double-digits. His eighth, ninth and 10th points were important for the cause because he hit a corner triple to extend Biola's lead to 42-38 and buy them some critical breathing room. He would end the game with a team-high 17 points and was also active on the boards with four rebounds.
The Eagles had active hands on defense from start to finish in this one, putting up a +9 turnover margin and forcing 14 NDNU turnovers with seven steals. This resulted in 15 points added to the Biola tally as a side effect of the NDNU ball control struggles.
Biola lost the rebounding battle, but it still made a major impact under the hoop with 32 of its 60 points coming from inside the painted area. Of course the 14 from Jones and 15 from Alex Talma played a big role in that.
Talma was stellar throughout the game, making five of his seven field goals and going 5-of-7 from the free throw line with a lot of chances in the final minutes. He added seven rebounds, two steals, two assists and a block all for good measure.
Biola is now up to 8-12 on the season and improves to 2-10 in PacWest Conference play with its second win in a row. Biola can now see some positive trending in the conference standings as it's now just one game back from getting itself out of last place. The Argos' loss brought their record to 4-13 (3-9 PacWest).
