Watson To Be Biola Backstop

Caleb Watson joins a talented group of catchers on the 2018 Biola Baseball roster.

July 21, 2017

FOLSOM, Calif. --- Biola Baseball welcomes behind the plate the successful catcher from Valley Christian Academy, Caleb Watson.

Watson was a key component behind the plate for the Lions; taking them to the top as CIF Championships for three years. He continued his success by adding strength to the Lions' offense with a .489 batting average, 27 RBI and a .542 on base percentage.

Recognized for his success he earned all-league honorable mention as a sophomore. As a senior he was named all-league first team, awarded Sac Bee All-Metro Honorable Mention and elected for the Optimist All-Star Game.

"Caleb is an undersized catcher, but played with a lot of intensity and loves catching," said Head Coach Jay Sullenger. "He moves well and we feel is a great candidate in a program that looks to develop the right talent. You always like to get guys from good coaches and programs like VCA and Coach Gunter. It just makes your job easier."

Stepping out from behind the plate and into the classroom Caleb takes his schooling seriously. Graduating from Valley Christian Academy with 4.0 GPA he will be pursuing A's in Biola's business administration program this fall.

Caleb is looking forward to the chance of playing baseball for a great group of coaches and guys.

"I chose Biola University because I know I will be surrounded by students, teammates, coaches, and faculty with the same values and beliefs as myself," said Watson. "Biola has a great Christian atmosphere and it is reflected everywhere on campus."
