BELL GARDENS, Calif. --- Biola Volleyball's inaugural NCAA Division II recruiting class is now complete with the addition of another setter, Vanessa Garcia.
 
Garcia joins Head Coach Aaron Seltzer's squad after spending three years on varsity over at Warren High School. In her three seasons of varsity ball she earned three all-league honors and worked her way towards the team captaincy in her senior season.
 
"We could not be more excited to have Vanessa decide on Biola," said Seltzer. "Heading into the 2017 season we felt our biggest need was having another setter after the graduation of Tori Moons. We feel God brought Vanessa along when we least expected it."
 
Garcia was a relatively late commit for a player of her caliber, so having her join the team in advance of the highly anticipated 2017 season is a huge deal. She will come alongside returning setter Brinley Beresford to set up the Eagles' lethal arsenal of attacking players.
 
"After her visit and work out with our team this spring we knew that having her here Biola would be the perfect fit," said Seltzer. "Vanessa has a big heart and a desire to grow in Christ so I could think of no better place to do that at then Biola.  She will provide some much needed depth to our 2017 roster."
 
In addition to the all-league honors and leadership roles she assumed, Garcia was also named the "most improved" player on her 2015 and 2016 high school squads and was a four-time recipient of the Stauffer Scholar Award.
 
Garcia is extremely bright, maintaining California Scholarship Federation membership throughout high school and earning the Seal Bear and Distinguished Graduate awards for her academic achievements.
 
She plans to study engineering physics at Biola and go on to a career at Boeing or SpaceX.
 
"I chose Biola not only because of its competitive volleyball program and great atmosphere but the ability to create a stronger relationship with God," said Garcia.
 
Catch Garcia and her teammates on the court in Chase Gym this fall. The team's home opener is Saturday, Sept. 23 against PacWest rival Point Loma.
